Festo SE & Co. KG and the University of Tübingen will be working together in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) research in the future. The co-operation partners recently signed an agreement on joint research activities for autonomous systems: As part of an "Industry on Campus" co-operation, Festo is setting up an AI laboratory at the university.

Autonomous systems are needed in production in order to manufacture customised products efficiently. They are adaptable and can solve tasks independently and constantly adapt: From transport systems within a plant to flexible production systems and quality control, autonomous systems are one of the key technologies for the smart factory of the future. So-called collaborative robots can learn from each other and support humans in repetitive and tedious tasks. The potential for AI-based applications to increase overall plant efficiency in production is enormous. This is why Festo has decided to focus its AI laboratory on autonomous systems.
